National Homologations

The National Homologation, contemplated by Art. 75 of the Highway Code, is granted on the basis of the current law at the time of application and is valid only on the italian territory.

In Italy, the law regarding the national homologations provides exemptions and alternative procedures:

Contemplated by Art. 2 D.M. 277 of 2nd of may, 2001, is issued only for vehicles produced in small series, whatever the category they belong is (M, N, O, L), with limited equipment and/or programs, that does not justify the national homologations (involves a quicker procedure).

It can also be issued for vehicles produced in small series, pending the completion of national homologation procedure. The same is subject to production constraints and a periodic inspection performed every two years. In the event of a production increase, it is transformed into the "national homologation type".

Contemplated by the D.M. 94 from the 16th of Jannuary, 1995 and by the Art. 227 from the Implementing Regulation of the Highway Code is a particular form of approval, which is granted to vehicles being still tested that present innovative solutions and technical characteristics incompatible with the current rules and regulations.

It is normally subject to limitations on the duration and validity, and can be quantitatively bound on the production. After the testing period, based on the obtained results, the temporary homologation can be converted into permanent "national homologation" or revoked, in which case the vehicles in circulation must be adapted to the current rules and regulations.
