Rollover resistance tests

The rollover and resistance test of the structure are required by the Decree of 20 June 2003 on "Implementation of Directive 2001/85/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20th of November 2001, and the amendments on the special provisions for passengers transportation vehicles comprising more than eight seats in addition to the driver's seat, and amending Directives 70/156/EEC and 97/27/EC".

In particular, the 4th paragraph of Annex IV provides that each M2 and M3 category vehicle must be subjected to a rollover test or a superstructure strength test able to demonstrate that it meets the requirements referred to in the 3rd chapter of Annex IV.

Our Company has developed, for this purpose, calculation methods, aimed to reproduce a dynamic test, by using modern crash test software software, able to show the effects of dynamic actions, due to tilting, on the bus frame resistance and check the resistance of the superstructure. These calculation methods have been authorized by the Ministry of Transport, SIIT n. 6 Lazio, Abruzzo and Sardinia - Transportation Industry - Higher Research and Test Vehicles and Devices Center in Rome.

In compliance with the specifications of the standard, the proposed methods are able to verify the time course of the deformations and tensions, and are able to take account of involved geometry changes of the structure.

The model validation is based on the reliability of the EAD (Engineering Aided Design) software used, a tool that has been subject of a great number of international research tests in the automotive field.

Tekro Consulting Srls, with experience in the field of vehicle road homologation and a team of ANSYS ICEM CFD and LS-DYNA MANAGER software specialized professionals, offers customized solutions for designing and performing rollover and superstructure resistance tests through the above models.
